When I first contacted Steve Boyce (recording studio owner, producer and top musician) about recording the songs I had demoed at home, I said to him “I want it to sound like a cross between Seasick Steve, Black Sabbath and the Sex Pistols”. “Hey You!” the song is perhaps the most “punk” track on the album.
I thought it was the ideal track to kick the album off because of its immediacy, its brevity (just two and a half minutes long), and its impact.
Like “Get Me Some” it is a song of frustration against all of those in power who would rule over us but who do so at times seemingly without any kind of empathy or “love”.
WHAT YOU GONNA DO?
WHAT YOU GONNA SAY NOW?
NOW THAT YOUR TIME IS THROUGH
WHERE YOU GONNA GO?
WHERE YOU GONNA PLAY NOW?
YOU DON’T REALLY KNOW
YOU CAN SAY WE HAD IT ALL
BUT NOW WE’VE NOTHING LEFT AT ALL
YOU STAND AND DICTATE FROM ABOVE
WHERE YOU’RE FROM THERE’S JUST NO LOVE
NO LOVE, NO LOVE, NO LOVE
